Kathleen “Kathy” Dorothy (Flowerday) Tyrrell was born March 18, 1943, in Seward to Raymond and Dorothy (Zillig) Flowerday. She went home to her eternal joy in Jesus on Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, in Bay Minette, Alabama, at the age of 77.
Kathy was a beloved wife and mother, and adored her grandkids. She loved animals, crosswords, card games, playing the piano and organ and singing along with her favorites such as the Gaithers and Elvis. Kathy had a playful sense of humor that kept everyone laughing.
As a young girl, Kathy moved with her family to their farm in Beaver Crossing. She graduated from Beaver Crossing High School and married her high school sweetheart, Tom Tyrrell, on Oct. 8, 1960, recently celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. They lived in Beaver Crossing and Lincoln, and later resided in Mobile and Daphne, Alabama.
Kathy worked as a lifeguard and many years as an executive assistant at a law firm, architect group and a national publishing ministry. A former employer remarked that she was so sharp she could have run a corporation, but she chose a life of service.
Kathy was known for her extraordinary love of God and for others. Her deep faith and care were demonstrated in countless ways, from visits at bedsides of the sick, encouraging handwritten notes and scriptures, as well as incredible cooking that was loved by family and friends. Many were impacted by her prayers, kindness, patient listening and wise advice.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Bob Carr. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Thomas; three children, Scott (Kalleen) Tyrrell, Shelley Scott and Steven Tyrrell; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Tyrrell, Olivia Tyrrell, Dylan Tyrrell, Noelle Scott, Bella Scott, Emily Poss (Johnathan) and Ben Tyrrell; and two great-grandchildren, Josiah Tyrrell and Juliana Tyrrell; a brother, James (Laurie) Flowerday; a sister, Beth (Maurice) Hoffschneider; sister-in-law, MaryAnn (Ronald) Schernikau; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hidden Treasures, a ministry to needy children and families in Costa Rica, at P.O. Box 850067, Mobile, AL 36685 or via online at csmpublishing.org/product/hidden-treasures-donation (please indicate, “for Kathy"). A celebration of life is planned for a later time.
