Karen Kay (Lewis) Ihde was born Nov. 24, 1940, on a farm in Gresham, to Leonard and Dorothy (Dey) Lewis and passed away Nov. 13, 2021, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 20 days.

She graduated from Gresham High School with the Class of 1957, with a deep love for English. Karen was united in marriage to Leroy “Butch” Ihde on Feb. 13, 1960. The two were each other’s lifelong companions and friends. They made their home in Tamora and were blessed with four children: Robert, Leroy, Lloyd, and Diana. Karen worked as a nurse at a long-term care facility and spent her retirement providing home health care. She was known by her colleagues for her compassion and tireless energy.

Karen was an avid traveler, enjoying Victoria Springs and the Black Hills. Other hobbies included camping, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Dorothy Lewis; husband, Leroy Ihde; brothers, Lennis and Gerry; sister, Vicki; daughter, Diana and grandson, Jeremiah.

Karen is survived by her children, Robert Ihde, Leroy Ihde, and Lloyd (Mary) Ihde; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; brother, Roger (Mary) Lewis; brother-in-law, Denny Conell, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Karen will be remembered for her beautiful smile and extraordinary, loving kindness.
