Jeanette “Jan” Lampe was born Dec. 8, 1933, in Seward, to William and Lena (Bender) Hartmann and passed away Oct. 15, 2020, in York, at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 7 days. Jan was baptized on Dec. 31, 1933, at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward.

Jan moved to the Garland area at the age of four. She attended Zion Lutheran Church and School and was confirmed May 4, 1947, by Pastor William Petersen. She attended Garland High School and graduated with the Class of 1951. Jan worked for Lincoln Telephone Co. in Seward for a few years and then went to Weaver Airline School in Kansas City. She worked for Braniff International Airlines and later for Sabena Belgium Airlines for 16 years. Jan returned to Nebraska in 1971. On Nov. 24, 1973, she was united in marriage to Emil Lampe at Zion Lutheran Church, Garland. She worked for Lutheran Rural Ministries, Hartmann Construction and York General Hospital. Jan was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Waco, and a longtime choir member. She was presently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Utica, and a coordinator of Grand Pal’s program. Jan and Emil enjoyed collecting antiques.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Donald, Walter and Richard Hartmann; and two sisters, Marjory (Hartmann) and husband Dan Heibel and Dorothy Hill.

Survivors cherishing her memory include her husband, Emil; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Doris Hartmann and Jim and Ardath Hartmann, all of Seward; three sisters-in-law, Della Hartmann, Viola Hartmann and Arlys Hartmann; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

A funeral service was Oct. 20 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica with interment at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Waco. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to the C.A.S.I.N.O Endowment at Concordia University. Condolences may be left for the family at www.zabkafuneralhome.com.
