The Seward boys’ bowling team had a good day Dec. 20, improving from the previous weekend and beating one of the top teams in the state in Lincoln Pius X.

“In the first game, we had four really good scores,” Coach Steve Conner said.

Despite that, the Jays lost 6-2. They came back to win game two 6-2, tying the score going into the deciding baker games. Seward lost by three in the first and won the next two for a 13-8 match win.

“We were pretty good across the board,” Conner said.

Four Bluejays averaged over 200 for the day – Ashton Koetter at 228, including a 256 game, Dane Conner at 215, Noah Brumm at 203 and Bryce Piskorski at 202.

Coach Conner said the team set the school record for total pins, breaking the old record of 2,018 with a 2,040.

“It was exciting,” Coach Conner said. “It was fun to see how they’d react to competition. They didn’t flinch.”

The Seward girls defeated Pius 20-1.

Up next for Seward was the 16-team Pius Invitational Dec. 28 at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln.

“We look forward to seeing other teams that are doing well. It’s a good assessment tool,” Coach Conner said.
