The Seward baseball team battled the wind and tough opponents on the diamond last week, going 0-4 in its games.

The week started with a 16-8 loss to Crete/Milford April 18. Cameron Olson was 3-4 with three RBIs for the Jays, and Parker Hammond and Carl Taylor added two hits each. The Bluejays, however, committed 10 errors in the game.

SHS pitchers combined for seven strikeouts and just seven earned runs over seven innings. Crete/Milford scored in every inning but the third.

On April 19, the Bluejays were at Mount Michael Benedictine and came up short 8-4. Finn Hochstein and Braiden Herring had two hits each for Seward, and Connor Sveeggen drove in two runs on a double in the fourth inning.

Seward hosted the Bluejay Invitational April 23 with Malcolm, Central City/Fullerton/Centura and Wayne coming to town. Seward played CCFC first and lost 15-3. Olson was 2-2 with a double and drove in three. Hochstein pitched three innings and allowed 10 runs, eight earned.

The loss dropped SHS to the consolation game where it played Wayne and lost 21-18.

Hochstein hit for the cycle, drove in four runs and scored four times. Drew Covalt doubled twice and drove in three. Ryley Hain also had two hits, and Olson and Reggie Sukup each drove in two.

Seward finished the game with 16 hits – seven for extra bases.
