Halloween events planned

Several groups and organizations are holding events to celebrate Halloween. Here are some ways to mark the day:

Oct. 25

Rotary’s Costume Contest—The costume contest will take place at 6 p.m. on Oct. 25 at the Bandshell—or at the Civic Center, in case of inclement weather. Children ages 0-12 are invited to participate. Free bags of candy will be available to all contestants, special medallions will be awarded to the top three in each age division and a grand prize trophy will be awarded to the top contestant.

Oct. 27

Liberty House pumpkin weighing contest—The weighing contest will begin 10 a.m. on Oct. 27 on the Liberty House lawn. First through third place pumpkins will be awarded.

Malcolm—The Malcolm Field of Dreams committee will host a one-mile trick-or-treat and one-mile and 5K fun runs Saturday, Oct. 27. The trick-or-treat run will go through the community and allow kids to race for treats. All runners will receive a goody bag at the end. The fun runs are open to runners of all ages. Prizes will be given. Costumes are encouraged but not required. Register at https://runsignup.com/Race/NE/Malcolm/MalcolmField ofDreamsHaloweenFunRun. The trick-or-treat run starts at 8:30 a.m., with the fun runs to follow. A free-will donation breakfast will be served from 8 to 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Malcolm on race day.

Sparetime—Sparetime will host its Halloween party and costume contest from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Oct. 27. The Homegrown Band will perform, and cash prizes are available for first through third place costumes.

Oct. 28

Scare at the Fair—The fair will begin with special needs admission from 3:30 to 4 p.m. with general admission from 4 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 at the Seward Ag Pavilion.

Project Pumpkin—Project Pumpkin will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 28 at Concordia University’s David Hall.

Ridgewood Rehabilitation and Care Center—Ridgewood will host trick-or-treating in the Cardinal and Meadowlark Rooms from 3 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 28. The care center is located at 624 Pinewood Ave.

Greene Place—Greene Place will host a trunk or treat from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28. All ages are welcome at the event, which will take place at 600 Church Street, Seward.

Oct. 31

United Methodist Church—The United Methodist Church will celebrate Halloween with hot cider, hot chocolate, cookies and crafts from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31 at 1400 N. Fifth St.

Hillcrest Evangelical Free Church—Hillcrest Evangelical Free Church will hold its fall festival inside. Grab a warm drink and a bite to eat, go from themed room to themed room to play carnival games and collect candy. The event is free and open to the public from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 at 2433 Progressive Road, Seward.

Seward Senior Center—The Lied Senior Center will host a Halloween party Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. Games and snacks will be available. Costumes are encouraged.

Crestview Care Center—The center will hold a community trick or treat event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 at 1100 First St., Milford.
