Gunnar Joseph Holte was born Feb. 22, 2011, to Matthew T. and Rachel N. (Counselor) Holte in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was in the fourth grade at St. John Lutheran School in Seward.

He loved to trade Pokémon cards with his friends. He also enjoyed hard rock music, hunting, fishing and anything outdoors. His laugh and smile were infectious. To Gunnar, a stranger was just someone he wasn’t friends with yet. He touched everyone’s heart that he came into contact with. He loved random trivia, bad dad jokes and bugs (many of which were brought into the house) and animals. He loved science and wanted to be an engineer when he grew up. He also had the distinct honor of being the world’s greatest big brother.

Gunnar passed away Oct. 25, 2020, in Lincoln, at the age of 9 years, 8 months and 3 days. He is survived by his parents, Matthew and Rachel Holte, and younger sister, Saffron Holte of Seward; grandparents, Norman and Denise Holte, Cheyenne, Joe and Christina Counselor, Herrick, South Dakota; aunt, Jennifer Rasmussen, Laramie, Wyoming; aunts and uncles, Karma and Skeeter Schwader, Herrick; Erika (Auntie Wan) and Scott Moncrief, Cheyenne; and cousins, Brock and Braden Rasmussen, Laramie, Brittny Leaman, Cheyenne, Kevin Leaman, Rapid City, South Dakota, Katie Moncrief, Lincoln and Christian Moncrief, Cheyenne.
