Veterans Day programs in the area include:

St. John Lutheran School
Friday, Nov. 8, 8:30 a.m. in the church sanctuary, open to the public

Nebraska National Guard Museum
Quilts of Valor presentation, Sunday, Nov. 10, 1:30 p.m., 15 quilts to be presented, open to the public

Seward Middle School
Monday, Nov. 11, 8:30 a.m. in the gym, open to the public

Malcolm High School
Monday, Nov. 11, 8:30 a.m. in the high school gym, open to the public

Centennial High School
Monday, Nov. 11, 10 a.m. in the high school auditorium, open to the public

Milford High School
Monday, Nov. 11, 11 a.m. at the high school auditorium, open to the public

Seward High School
Monday, Nov. 11, 12:30 p.m. lunch for veterans followed by a music program at 1:15 in the auditorium

Seward Elementary School
Monday, Nov. 11, 2 p.m. in the elementary school gym, for veterans and active duty service people only.

Meyer named veteran of month

Friday night lights

Seward will host Gretna East tonight (Nov. 8) at 7 p.m. in the Class B football quarterfinals.
Malcolm will travel to Battle Creek for a 7 p.m. game in the Class C2 football quarterfinals.

Bulldogs advance to championship game

The Concordia women's soccer team beat Dordt 1-0 Nov. 7 to advance to the GPAC championship game. Concordia (13-5-1, 8-3 GPAC) will make the trip to Hastings (14-1-5, 8-0-3 GPAC) and play the Broncos for the GPAC tournament title on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. at Lloyd Wilson Field.

EVENTS

WEEKEND - Fall play at CU

The theatre department at Concordia University will perform “Alice in Wonderland” as its fall main stage play on Nov. 8-10 and 15-17 in Weller Hall. Performances will take place each Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets to see this production cost $10 for general admission, or $5 for Concordia students and children.

SATURDAY - Methodist Church bazaar

The Sweet Treats Cafe will be open Saturday, Nov. 9, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Come early for a choice of beverage along with cinnamon roll or coffee cake. A free cinnamon roll and beverage will be provided to all veterans. The gift shop will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The bazaar provides a variety of handcrafted gift items, seasonal décor, blankets, quilts and homemade food items, including frozen take-n-bake casseroles. Items can be purchased using cash, checks or credit (with a 3% convenience fee).

SUNDAY - Travelogue

The second travelogue of the season at the Seward Memorial Library will be Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. Sue Imig and her daughter, Nancy Imig Smith, will share their experiences in Scandinavia as they explored the beautiful city of Gdansk, the inland city of Berlin, the Finnish Aland Islands and the 16-island city of Stockholm. 

MONDAY - Soup dinner

The Seward VFW Auxiliary will have a soup dinner to honor veterans on Monday, Nov. 11, from 5 – 7 p.m. or until supplies run out. Veterans will eat free, the charge for adults is $10 and kids 10 and under is $5. Three kinds of soup and two kinds of sandwiches will be offered and desserts with coffee, tea or water.

A celebration of life for Tina Tveter will be today, Nov. 8, at 10:30 a.m. at the Wilber United Methodist Church.
