Lutheran schools around the country will celebrate for a week Jan. 25-31. Among them are St. John Lutheran School in Seward and Our Redeemer Lutheran School in Staplehurst. The national theme is Endure, and each school has themes for each day.
Monday is Monday, Jan. 27, will be Mix Match Monday at St. John. Teachers may mix up students at lunch, and a family group activity is planned at 2:30 p.m.
At Our Redeemer, Monday is pajama day. Students are also allowed to bring a blanket and/or a small stuffed animal. A readathon will happen in the gym in the morning.
Catholic schools around the country, including St. Vincent de Paul in Seward, will celebrate Catholic Schools Week next week. St. Vincent has theme days planned all week.
Monday, Jan. 27, students will wear their uniforms and celebrate priests, religions and seminarians.
A rule change on the "present not voting" status during the third and final round of debate in the Nebraska Legislature was approved to make that designation a "no" vote yesterday. Senators voted 31-17 to approve the change.
Former Husker running back Calvin Jones was found dead at home in Omaha yesterday. Jones played for Nebraska from 1991-1993 and was inducted into the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.

The Seward Bluejay Booster Club will host soup and desserts from 5-8 p.m. in the lobby of Seward High School during the Seward vs. Aurora basketball games.
The St. Vincent de Paul School PTO Soup Supper will be Saturday, Jan. 25, from 5 – 8 p.m. or until soup runs out at St. Vincent’s Social Hall at 152 Pinewood Ave. A free-will donation will be accepted. Proceeds will benefit the St. Vincent de Paul School PTO.

The Seward VFW Auxiliary will host a soup supper fundraiser to help with the remodel of the VFW Club on Sunday, Jan. 26, from 5 – 7 p.m., serving chili and chicken noodle soups, garlic bread and a dessert for $8. The bar will be open.
The St. Vincent de Paul Knights of Columbus will serve a pancake breakfast Sunday, Jan. 26, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the church's social hall. The menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, juice and coffee.
“Did Someone Say Murder?” is the feature presentation Jan. 31 and Feb. 1-2 at the Olde Glory Theatre. Friday and Saturday shows include dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the show at 7:15. Dinner tickets are $30 and must be purchased by Jan. 29. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6:30-8 p.m. The funeral service will be tomorrow, Jan. 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pleasant Dale.
