Easter Weekend 

Today is known as Good Friday, a solemn Christian holy day commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The term "good" comes from the pious or holy sense of the word. Three days after His death on the cross, Jesus rose from the dead, which is celebrated on Easter Sunday.

Seward County area residents will soon have a place to learn the ins and outs of the digital world. 
The Seward County Digital Empowerment Center is part of Seward County’s efforts to improve broadband connectivity and empower local residents to take advantage of internet connections for work, telehealth or making health appointments, taking classes, connecting with family and friends, and many other options.

Around the Country

The High Plains Regional Climate Center at UNL has closed its doors. The center provided data for CropWatch, an online tool that helped farmers manage their fields, and the Cattle Comfort Index, which helped ranchers monitor their cattle. Data was also submitted to the National Drought Mitigation Center. All data associated with the center was also removed from the website. The center operated for 38 years until federal funding was cut this year.

The Trump Administrations is planning to do away with habitat protection for endangered and threatened species. The issue is the definition of "harm," which includes altering or destroying the places those species live, compared to habitat modification.

TODAY - Fun Fridays 

The Seward Memorial Library will host “Just for Fun Fridays” every Friday from 1:30 – 3 p.m. This program is designed for adults. First and third Fridays of the month, card games; second and fourth Fridays, Bingo; fifth Friday – patrons’ choice between cards or Bingo.

Don't Miss the Easter Egg Hunts

Area Easter egg hunts are scheduled for Saturday, April 19. The schedule includes:
Seward VFW, 10 a.m., up to age 8, Plum Creek Park soccer fields
Bee, 11 a.m., fifth grade and younger, Bee Village Hall
Seward Mercy City, 1 p.m., courthouse lawn
Staplehurst, 2 p.m., ages 0-10, Staplehurst Park, the Easter bunny will be there, too.

SUNDAY - VFW Post breakfast buffet

The Seward VFW Post will offer a breakfast buffet the third Sunday of each month, serving from 8 to 11 a.m. Donations help support all of the group’s projects. The public is welcome.

FUNERAL SERVICES

SIDES, Bradley

Visitation for Bradley Sides will be Sunday, April 20, from 4-8 p.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home in Seward. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. The funeral service will be Monday, April 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Hillcrest Evangelical Free Church in Seward. Graveside service and interment will be at 11:30 a.m. at the Seward Cemetery.

BUETTNER, CJ

A Celebration of Life for CJ Buettner will be Saturday, April 19, at the Utica Senior Center from 3 – 6 p.m. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
