Final phase of Karol Kay to begin

The final phase of work on Karol Kay Boulevard in Seward will begin early in April.

Greg Butcher, Seward City Administrator, said construction crews will return to the road on April 5 to put on the finishing touches, including lighting and landscaping. He said the lack of lighting is why the road had not yet been open.

“We had to keep it closed and keep people off the surface so we could go in there and finish it up,” Butcher said. “Construction started in September and they worked into the winter but we didn't feel comfortable without the lighting.”

He added that the lighting was a source of focus. Lights on the plan were rearranged to the west side of the roadway to reduce light pollution to neighboring homes.

Butcher said the road looks to be open and ready for motorists by May.
