Feb. 17, 1918 – May 6, 2019

Ella Sophia Anna (Wellman) Stuhr, age 101, of Waco passed to her eternal home May 6, 2019, in Seward. She was born Feb. 17, 1918, in Waco to Herman and Rieka (Naber) Wellman. Ella was a longtime resident of York County. She was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church, south of Waco, and grew up in the loving care of her parents on a small farm east of Waco, where her early years included tending to the farm animals and helping her mother grow gardens and flowers.

On Dec. 20, 1936, she was united in marriage to Reinhardt “Reiny” Stuhr at the Peace Lutheran Church in Waco. She and Reiny were members of Peace Lutheran Church, where she was involved with the Ladies Aid. They made their home near Waco until Reiny retired at age 65. Ella enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting and needlework, trying to beat Reiny at a game of Pitch and spending time with her family and friends. They truly enjoyed many travels together.

She is survived by her children, Roger Stuhr of Waco and his daughters, Tiffany (Tim) Geis of Lincoln and Carri (Aaron) Stuhr of St. Paul, Minnesota; Ronald (Alice) Stuhr and their son, Matt, of Topeka, Kansas; Kenneth (Jan) Stuhr, of Waco and their children, Scott (Tammy) Stuhr of Central City, Autumn (Kip) Reeves of Auburn and Travis Stuhr (Lisa Cravens) of York; and the Rev. Lloyd Stuhr of Plattsmouth and his daughters, Angela (Mike) Hoernemann of Shakopee, Minnesota, and Megan Stuhr of La Vista. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Esther Wellman; and daughters-in-law, Linda Stuhr and Twila Stuhr.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Peace Lutheran Church in Waco. Interment will follow at the Waco City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, with her family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Metz Mortuary in York.
