Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Soukup, 98, of Lincoln, died peacefully Saturday, July 10, 2021, at St Elizabeth CHI Hospital. She was born July 2, 1923, in Seward, to Roy White and Adeline (Zwick) White.

Betty graduated from Seward High School in 1941, She married Louis James Soukup from Seward on June 2, 1941. She became a homemaker and mother. Her husband died in 1980. With her children grown, Betty moved to Lincoln in 1981.

She was employed at State Farm insurance offices, J Braggs women’s clothing store and eventually became a sorority housemother at the University of Nebraska. After five years, she moved to Tucson, Arizona, to become a housemother at the University of Arizona. She retired seven years later at the age of 82. She returned to Lincoln for her remaining years of life. She traveled the world and was involved with Widowed Persons Service, Cornhusker State Games, PEO and St Theresa Catholic Church.

Survived by children, Sheryl (husband Thomas) Thomsen of Omaha, Rebecca (husband Todd) Dickinson of Marian, Iowa, and James (wife Dianne Schluckebier) Soukup of Seward; nine grandchildren, Jill (Mike)Thomsen Rogers, Jeremy (Rachael) Dickinson, Travis Soukup, TJ (Pia) Thomsen, Bryan (Angie) Soukup, John (Brandi) Nye, Adam (Sarah Stille) Dickinson, Josh (Beth) Nye, Jimmy (Renee) Soukup; 21 great-grandchildren, James, Caroline,Thomas Rogers; Asa, Noa Thomsen; Emma, Elena, Elyssa, Ella, Joey Nye; Elliott, Alex, Ellie Dickinson, Nelson Stille; Charles Hoernemann, Jackson, Brady, Bode, Tyce, Tessa, Titan Soukup. Betty was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Nyla Nye (and her husband Jay Nye); granddaughter-in-law, Denise (Neujahr) Soukup; her parents; sister and brothers.

A graveside family service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to Books for Babies - Methodist Fremont Health Foundation, Fremont, or the donor’s choice.
