Elaine A. Bauer was born Jan. 20, 1928, to Albert and Lillian (Firnhaber) Prochnow in York. She attended St. John Lutheran Grade School in Seward and then Concordia High School in Seward, graduating in 1945. Following high school, she attended the National Business Institute in Lincoln, graduating in 1946. She worked for First Federal Savings and Loan as a stenographer for two years. On Aug. 22, 1948, Elaine was united in marriage to Wilbur “Tim” Bauer at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. She helped Wilbur on the farm until his death in 1956.

Elaine was a devoted mother to her three children. She touched many lives while working with her mother at Stylecraft Fashion Shop for 30 years, retiring in 1989. She then worked in the St. John School cafeteria for 10 years, retiring in 2001. Elaine was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Elaine passed away June 16, 2019, in Seward at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 27 days.

She is survived by her son, Tom Bauer of Seward; daughter, Cokie (Larry) Wayne of Lincoln; grandchildren, Keri Wayne-Browne (Mike Browne), Bob (Candace) Wayne, Derek (Tanya) Wayne, Quentin (Jeannie) Bauer, Blake Bauer and Trevor (Kelsey) Bauer; great-grandchildren, Trey (Amanda) Wayne, Mekhi and Keir Wayne-Browne, Paxton, Jordyn and Christian Wayne, Hayden, Jax and Crew Bauer and Coltin Bauer; great-great-grandchild, Emerie Kay Wayne; sister, Joanne (Ben) Marxhausen of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Marian (Don) Leff of Kirbyville, Missouri; nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends and relatives.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur “Tim” Bauer; son, Reginald “Reggie” Bauer; parents, Albert and Lillian Prochnow; brother and sister-in-law, Eugene “Bud” and Jean Prochnow; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Anna Bauer; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Betty Bauer.

A remembrance book will be available for signing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2019, at Volzke Funeral Home in Seward. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, in Mound Prairie Cemetery near Goehner, with the Rev. Arthur Schauer officiating.
