The Milford softball team earned third place in the Southern Nebraska Conference tournament Sept. 26, with its only loss of the day coming in the semifinals to Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan/Friend.

The Eagles opened with a wild 14-13 win over Blue River. Coach Tom McCall said the Eagles committed too many errors, which made the game very interesting.

“You can’t do those things,” he said.

Milford finished with 12 hits, including a grand slam and a double by Camille Stauffer. Kaitlyn Klug was 3-4 with three RBIs. Makena Stutzman, Abby Houk, Alexis Banks and Stauffer had two hits each.

Milford did not have its best defensive effort against FCEMF, McCall said. Milford outhit the Panthers 11-6 but committed five errors and walked eight batters.

The loss dropped the Eagles into the third place game where they played Centennial and won 6-3. McCall said MHS did a better job limiting errors.

Milford (7-10) will get a rematch with FCEMF Sept. 29 and host Blue River Thursday, Oct. 1, in the final game of the regular season. Subdistricts start Monday, Oct. 5, but brackets were not available at press time.
