Eagles split pair on hardwood

Milford’s boys’ basketball team split its games last week, beating Falls City 46-33 Jan. 3 and falling to Malcolm 63-38 Jan. 5.

“Malcolm – that was a tough one,” Coach Mitchell Marvin said. “Malcolm is a very good team. They had two kids who lit us up with 20-plus points. They shot lights out.”

He said the Clippers took the Eagles out of their element and made it difficult to score. He said Malcolm took advantage of situations to get easy baskets.

“It’s frustrating,” he said. “It’s hard on the kids. They wanted to show up better than they did. They’re capable of playing at a higher level than they showed.”

When the team watched film of the game, Marvin said, the athletes saw where they need to make improvements.

Nelson Girmus led the Eagles with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

The week started with Monday’s win over Falls City. The Tigers jumped out to a 10-2 lead, but the Eagles didn’t panic, Marvin said. Playing from behind was a good learning experience for MHS, he said.

Cayden Baker led the team with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Milford (5-7) is off until Saturday, Jan. 14, when it hosts Thayer Central at 7:30 p.m.
