Senior Cash Duncan of Seward  won his 100th career match Dec. 11 during the Crete Invitational.

Duncan won via a pin of Crete’s Wyatt Clarke.

Seward wrestlers brought home four medals among its nine wrestlers. Duncan finished third at 120 pounds, Nolan Hill was third at 182, Alijah Utecht was fourth at 195 and Dustin Hurley was fourth at 220.

Coach Bob Core said the Bluejays let some matches get away, but overall he was happy with how they did.

“Everybody won a match,” he said.

Milford and Centennial joined Seward on the mat Dec. 9 for the county triangular. Milford won both its duals, beating Seward 42-22 and Centennial 60-24, and Seward topped the Broncos 39-27.

Core said the Jays gave up 24 points with open weights against Milford but won five of the nine contested matches. He was pleased to see Conner Rosendale win his match against Jack Chapman and Hill defeat Thomas Vance in overtime.

Seward will wrestle at the Friday Night Fracas in Grand Island Friday and Saturday, Dec. 17 and 18, for the first time. Core said they’ll try to fill weights to get through the eight duals over two days.

“The kids respond well to good competition,” he said. “We’ll see how they are under fire.”
