Doris Pearl Russell was born Sept. 9, 1925, in Lyons to Pearl (Mayberry) and Frank Badje and passed away Nov. 24, 2018, in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 93 years, 2 months and 15 days.

Doris grew up in Burt County, where she attended Mount Pleasant School and later graduated from Tekamah High School with the class of 1942. Doris was united in marriage to Billy Eugene Potter in June 1944. Doris was widowed when Billy tragically died in an automobile accident on Feb. 21, 1948, leaving Doris and three young girls.

Doris later married Clifford Charles Russell on Oct. 1, 1955, in Dakota City. The couple farmed near Tekamah, North Bend, Bennington, Herman and Craig until the mid 1970s when they moved back to Tekamah, where Clifford worked at the Grain Elevator until his retirement in 1980. The couple moved to Seward 1993 to be closer to family.

Doris loved embroidery, quilting, being with her family and watching her grandchildren grow up. She also enjoyed reading and going to coffee with her friends and relatives. Doris moved to Arizona in June 2017 to be with her children. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Billy on Feb. 21, 1948, and Clifford on Sept. 13, 1993; three grandsons; one great-granddaughter; two daughters, Bonnie (Potter) Summers on April 29, 2005, and Phyllis (Potter) White on Feb. 3, 2017; two step-daughters, Lavhon (Russell) Pahlke in 2009 and Janet Kay (Russell) Miller in 2007; sister, Goldie (Badje) Payne; and brother, Willard (Bud) Badje. 

Doris is survived by four children, Judy and husband David Woodward of Phoenix, Arizona, Jacqueline and husband Bryant Shaw of Phoenix, Arizona, Rodney Russell of Chandler, Arizona, and Roger Russell of Peoria, Arizona; step-daughter, Mayone (Russell) Japp of Washington; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

A graveside service and inurnment will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Lyons Cemetery in Lyons, with the Rev. Jeff Clark officiating. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.zabkafuneralhome.com.
