Doris Louise (Sagehorn) Maier was born March 9, 1928, to Louis and Ida (Joseph) Sagehorn in Hampton. She graduated from Seward High School in 1946. On Sept. 7, 1947, Doris was united in marriage to Wilfred Maier at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward.

Doris was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family. In her free time she enjoyed bird watching, gardening and sewing. Doris was a member and past president of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and taught Sunday school for many years. She sang in the church choir, was a member of the Walther League and was on the Rural Election Board.

Doris passed away July 8, 2017, in Seward at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 29 days.

She is survived by her sons, Gary (Diane) Maier of Pueblo West, Colorado, and Doug (Rita) Maier of Utica; daughters, Patty (Bill) Hobbs of Lincoln and Pam (Dennis) Graves of Seward; sister-in-law, Marian Maier of Lincoln; grandchildren, Michelle Antrim, Gary Maier II (Jennifer Van Dyke), Angelica Greve, Kaela (Chad) Stuhr, Jennifer (Mark) Heaston, Janelle Maier (Seth Bowman), Bryan Kruse (Shelly Post), Trent (Jessie) Kruse, Erin (Craig) Stoll, Kyle Hobbs, Blake Hobbs, Kevin Hobbs and Brandy Glasscock (Steve Howell); 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Ida Sagehorn; husband, Wilfred Maier; parents-in-law, Otto and Sophie Maier; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Marjorie and Emil Prochnow and Evelyn and Eman Dobrusky.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Goehner, with the Rev. Seth Meyer officiating. Casketbearers are Gary Maier II, Bryan Kruse, Trent Kruse, Steve Howell, Mark Heaston, Chad Stuhr and Dustin Kruse. Honorary casketbearers are Michelle Antrim, Angelica Greve, Kaela Stuhr, Jennifer Heaston, Janelle Maier, Erin Stoll, Kyle Hobbs, Blake Hobbs, Kevin Hobbs and Brandy Glasscock. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Seward. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church stained glass window fund.
