Donald D. (Pete) Peterson

Donald Dean (Pete) Peterson was born Aug. 28, 1936, in Utica to Norbert H. and Martha H. (Erks) Peterson and passed away May 15, 2019, in Lincoln at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 17 days.
Pete grew up in the Seward area, where he attended Seward High School. He enlisted into the United States Navy on Aug. 16, 1954, in Lincoln. He served on the U.S.S. Randall until he was honorably discharged on Aug. 23, 1957, at the U.S. Naval receiving station in Brooklyn, New York. Pete was united in marriage to Louise Weaver on Oct. 19, 1957. To this union, three children were born. He was an engineer for the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing for 37 years before retiring in 1992. After the death of his wife, Louise, in 1972, he married Virginia (Ginny) Murphy on June 27, 1975, in Arlington, Virginia. They were married for 37 years before Ginny passed away in 2011.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald Peterson, Jr.; both wives, Louise Peterson and Virginia Peterson; brother, Larry Peterson; sister, Carol Browne; and brother-in-law, Claus Martens.
Pete is survived by two daughters, Victoria (Peterson) Braaten and husband Ward and their children, Tanner Braaten, Alexandra (Braaten) Rapp and her husband Charles and their son, Zachary Rapp; Teresa (Peterson) Martin and her husband Frank and their children, Samantha Martin, Eric Martin and his wife Jen; stepdaughter, Carla Dimitriou and her husband John and their son Ari; sister, Joann Martens; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home in Seward, with the Rev. David Rempfer officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the People’s City Mission. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.zabkafuneralhome.com.
