Two people were arrested following a manhunt Sept. 7 near Milford.

According to the Seward County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a welfare check outside of Milford regarding a man unconscious in a vehicle. While making contact with the vehicle, the deputy located an unconscious man and also observed a controlled substance in plain view on the passenger seat.

Once the occupant exited the vehicle, the man identified himself, providing a false name. Shortly after, the deputy believed the man to be having a medical episode. At this time, the deputy allowed the man to retrieve his medication and he fled on foot.

A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, and drugs and paraphernalia were located. Documentation leading to the man’s proper identity was also discovered. He was identified as Daniel P. Vanwey, 36, of Lincoln.

After approximately a five-hour search of the area, the man was located and apprehended. Rescue was called to the scene. Vanwey was observed by rescue then transported to the Seward County Detention Center.

He was arrested for resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, false reporting, three Lancaster County warrants and an out-of-state warrant.

Sara Bartels, 29, of Lincoln was also arrested for false reporting and obstructing a peace officer.

Both were lodged in the Seward County Detention Center.
