Seward County accrued its highest single-week total of new coronavirus cases, skyrocketing pass the former mark of 136 with 212 cases between Oct. 31-Nov. 6, Four Corners Health Department said.

Together, the past two weeks' tally of 348 new cases account for 42.3% of the county's total COVID-19 cases.

A total of 460 new cases were confirmed in the Four Corners District from Oct. 31-Nov. 6. That includes a single-day record of 96 confirmed cases on Nov. 4. Four Corners said cases were spread across multiple age ranges with those in their 30s making up 16% of new cases in the past week while those in their 20s, 50s and 60s accounted for 15% of new cases.

Because of increased community spread, the Four Corner District risk dial rose to 3.0, on the border of high (orange) and severe (red). That's the highest level the risk dial has reached. Under the severe circumstances, Four Corners recommends no gatherings with non-household members and if a member of the household is sick with flu-like symptoms that they should get tested and isolate, among other recommendations.

Four Corners officials urged community members to avoid the three c's: crowded places, close contact and confined spaces, and to wash hands often.
