Courthouse dome painting nears beginning

A large crane on the south side of the Seward County Courthouse lawn May 26 meant the dome was one step closer to receiving a new coat of paint.

Crews used the crane to lift scaffolding onto the roof of the courthouse in order for Lindner Painting, Inc. employees to safely paint the middle structure and dome.

Roger Lindner, company vice president, said that the project was scheduled to begin as soon as scaffolding was put up and weather permitted.

“We hope to get (scaffolding) done this week but we can't control the weather,” he said May 26.

The first step, Lindner said, would be to water blast and prime the structure and dome to remove old paint and ready it for a fresh coat.

The structure will match the color of the dome caps on the corners, which were repainted earlier this year. The two domes will carry a gold finish, which drew a chuckle out of Lindner.

“The dome will be gold, which it is bronze now. We put that on a long time ago,” he said. “They didn't want gold at that time but now they want gold instead of bronze.”
