Concordia makes offer for school president

Concordia has extended an offer for its current president vacancy and awaits that candidate's response on the school's divine call.

Dr. Bernard Bull was chosen among the last two finalists to serve as Concordia's 11th president in school history. Interim president the Rev. Dr. Russ Sommerfeld updated the student body of that development in an Oct. 9 status report.

Bull currently serves as president of Goddard College in Vermont, where he's been for two years, after serving at Concordia University in Wisconsin for 12 years.

Bull spoke to Concordia students during a virtual presentation in August and emphasized the importance of Christian teachings and a Lutheran education, according to a report from The Sower student newspaper.

“In a world of islands where it seems like nothing is certain and everything is always changing, we are grounded in these unchanging truths of God's world,” he said.

Bull's presentation, as well as the other finalist's presentation, was made available to students and faculty. Surveys were also available for those to fill out so the school could gauge reactions to both finalists.

While the school hasn't released an official status update on its current presidential search, Sommerfeld included in his Oct. 9 update that it is the desire of the Concordia Board of Regents to provide the Concordia community with an update on Bull's divine call.

Sommerfeld didn't mention the presidential search in his most recent weekly update to the Concordia community on Oct. 16.
