With low numbers and injuries, the Centennial wrestling team isn’t a dual team. The Broncos hosted their home quadrangular Jan. 16 and went 1-2 in the duals they wrestled, beating Sandy Creek 33-17 and losing to Bishop Neumann 54-22 and Fillmore Central 52-24.
Coach Phil Payne wasn’t displeased with how the Broncos wrestled.
“I knew we were at a disadvantage with numbers,” he said.
Parker Dishman led the Broncos for the night, going 3-0 with three pins, the longest taking 1:34.
“Parker had a really good week,” Payne said. “He’s getting things figured out.”
Paul Fehlhafer went 2-1, with his loss coming to the No. 1 rated wrestler in Class C, Payne said.
The Broncos were back on the mat Jan. 17 at Elm Creek and brought home four medals. Fehlhafer went 3-0 with three pins to win at 285 pounds. Dishman was 3-1 with three pins and finished second at 175 pounds.
Evan Crawford placed third at 132 pounds with a 4-1 day and three pins, while Lane Johnson was 2-2 at 215 pounds and finished fourth. He had to beat teammate Emmett Crawford to medal, Payne said.
The Broncos will wrestle at David City Friday, Jan. 24. Junior varsity will compete at home Saturday, Jan. 25, with matches starting at 9:30 a.m.
