The Centennial volleyball team picked up a sweep over conference foe Wilber-Clatonia Sept. 24, then lost both ends of a triangular Sept. 26, falling to Centura 25-19, 25-14 and Broken Bow 16-25, 26-24, 25-19.

Coach Alex Anstine said the Wilber-Clatonia match, a 25-16, 25-7, 25-23 win for the Broncos, started well.

“The first two we did a nice job playing at our level and not making mistakes,” she said. “The third we tried to give away.”

Cheyenne Tonniges finished with 13 kills in the match, and Natalie Sams added nine. Ella Wambold served four aces and delivered 32 assists.

In the triangular, the Broncos didn’t play well against Centura, Anstine said. The team fought back against Broken Bow but couldn’t finish with the win.

Averie Stuhr had 10 kills against Centura, and Tonniges notched 11 against Broken Bow.

With no games on Saturday, Anstine gave the team the weekend off. They were back at work preparing for another week of tough competition.

CHS (7-13) lost at Milford 25-15, 25-12, 20-25, 25-11 Oct. 1 and will host Thayer Central Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 5, the team goes to Tecumseh for a tournament.

“It’s another crazy week,” Anstine said. “I hope we compete. I hope we rise to the challenge.”
