Centennial junior Savannah Horne picked up where she left off last season, winning two events and setting a new meet record.

Horne and the Broncos were at Concordia University March 17 for the Bulldog Track and Field Challenge, competing in the Forest Division.

Horne won both the 60- and 200-meter dashes. Her time of 7.97 seconds in the 60 broke her record from last year of 8.13 seconds.

“She is looking forward to having a strong season and has already improved on last year marks at this point,” Coach Rob Johansen said.

She won the 200 in 27.07 seconds.

The girls’ 4x800-meter relay team of Grace Schernikau, Lillian Butzke, Ella Wambold and Molly Prochaska finished second in 11:44.83, and Cambria Saunders jumped to third in the triple jump with a jump of 31-9.5.

Jayde Gumaer paced the boys’ team with his silver medal and throw of 43-3 in the shot put.

“He added 5 foot onto last year’s toss at this meet and set an all-time PR,” Johansen said.

Teammate Paul Fehlhafer also threw a personal best in the shot put and placed fifth.

John Fehlhafer picked up fourth in the 800-meter run, and Camden Winkelman set a personal best at 10-0 in the pole vault and finished fifth.

“We had a few kids missing at the meet that held us back in scoring, but it was a really good start for the others,” Johansen said. “It’s just good to compete and see where we’re at as far as conditioning goes. It’s a long season ahead and we will keep on working hard to improve each week.”

Centennial’s next competition is Friday, March 24, in a quadrangular at Louisville.
