Centennial started the day flat at the Sutton Duals, Coach Phil Payne said, falling to Thayer Central. CHS came back with wins over Sutton, Hi-Line, Wood River and Freeman.
Payne said the first dual wasn’t clean, but after that the Broncos wrestled well.
Payne said he saw good things from the freshmen who took the mat, Garett Schernikau got a nice win against a wrestler from Hi-Line, and Nick Keith picked up a win in a tough match against Wood River.
The Broncos were back at practice Dec. 28, with their next competition Friday, Jan. 8, at Pender and Saturday, Jan. 9, at Oakland-Craig. Both are dual tournaments.
“I like the dual format anyway,” Payne said. “Sometimes at a tournament, you go 0-2 and are done. At least you have a chance for five matches.”
