Coach Tori Homolka saw good things from the Centennial softball team Aug. 24. The Broncos opened the season with a triangular in Geneva. CHS lost to Bishop Neumann 14-3 but beat Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan/Friend 10-8.

Opening against Neumann, which finished third in Class C last season, is a tough draw, but Homolka was happy with how CHS competed.

Dakota Boyer was 2-2 with a double, and Kobie Kosek was 2-2 with an RBI.

Centennial finished with 10 hits against FCEMF pitching in its second game, led by three by Paityn Scheele including a triple and two by Ashtynn Redfield.

“We put the ball in play and were able to move runners when we had them on,” Homolka said. “We were able to find grit and perseverance throughout the day.”

The Broncos (1-1) were scheduled to host a triangular Aug. 26, but officials moved the games to Sept. 9 because of the heat. On Thursday, Aug. 29, Centennial is set to host Lakeview in Gresham at 6:30 p.m., and then the Broncos head to Seward Saturday, Aug. 31, for a tournament.
