Bronco runners improve performances

Centennial sent two runners to state cross country and, although they finished out of the medals, both had successful races.

Madison Brandenburgh and Clinton Turnbull had set goals for times to run, Coach Rob Johansen said. Both wanted to etch their names on the school’s top 10 charts, which are based on times run at the Kearney Country Club, the state meet course.

Brandenburgh beat the school record in September at the UNK Invite, Johansen said. Turnbull missed the list by two seconds.

It was 34 degrees (feels-like temperature of 23) with north winds at 18 mph Oct. 23, the coach said.

“Weather conditions proved to be a little tough, so I thought,  to run a good time,” he said. “Both Madison and Clinton proved me wrong and I was thrilled that they did.”

Brandenburgh finished in 22:10, 30 seconds faster than her time at UNK, and Turnbull improved 19 seconds to 18:13.

“We saw some very good improvement from both Madison and Clinton this season,” Johansen said. “It’s going to be exciting to see how well they can do next year as juniors. Both are hard workers and have the desire to keep getting better. They were really fun to coach this year.”
