Centennial’s Alex Hirschfeld earned his first trip to the Class C state golf tournament May 23 and 24 and had a good two days.

Coach Cam Scholl said Hirschfeld got off to a rough start on the first day but was able to battle back on the second nine.

“It’s still golf, but state feels different,” Scholl said. “The kid competed.”

Hirschfeld finished with a 90 on day one and 88 on day two for a 178 total. That put him in 43rd.

Scholl said Hirschfeld outcompeted his playing partners on both days, which he was happy to see.

“That gives him a taste,” he said. “I hope that gives the younger golfers something to shoot for. I think he has high hopes for next year.”
