The Seward bowling teams finished the regular season with duals against Wayne at Sparetime in Seward Jan. 23.

The boys continued their dominant run by winning 20-1 over the No. 5 Wayne team.

“We beat a pretty good team,” Coach Steve Conner said. “We are peaking at the right time.”

Seward bowled a 1,066 and 952 as a team. Dane Conner led the Jays with games of 268 and 231. Noah Brumm bowled 236 and 194. Ashton Conner averaged 195 and Ty Wehrs averaged 203, Coach Conner said.

The win over Wayne came on the heels of a 21-0 win over Gretna Jan. 19 in Seward.

“We put up some big numbers,” Coach Conner said.

The team bowled a 1,000 and 979, with Dane Conner bowling 244 and 206 and Brumm finishing with a 245 game.

“He’s just a sophomore and is an emerging talent,” Coach Conner said.

Seward will be in action Monday, Feb. 1, at districts at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln. Seward’s four-team district includes three of the top teams in the state – Seward, Fremont and Pius X. Gretna is the fourth team in the district.

“We’re in an incredibly difficult district,” Coach Conner said. “I hope the wildcard system does what it’s supposed to.”

Girls sweep week

The Seward girls’ team swept its duals, as well, beating Gretna 21-0 and Wayne 12-9.

Coach Julie Banes said Gretna didn’t provide much competition. Olivia Benes bowled a 202 game and 371 series. Sky Brumm finished with a 309 series.

Against Wayne, who was undefeated coming into the dual, Seward won 12-9. Coach Benes said the dual came down to the baker games, and Seward bowled 165 and 198 in them.

Brumm finished with a 211 game and a 366 series, and Olivia Benes notched a 358 series.

Seward is 14-3 going into districts and second overall.
