Bonnie Lou Smith, mother of Holly and grandmother of Christian, Aiden and Charlotte, has given us her blessing and journeyed on to join her Father in heaven on Sept. 16, 2022.

She was born Jan. 14, 1945, in Pierre, South Dakota, to Albert Henry and Ella Marie (Olson) Brehe. She grew up on her family farm in Agar, South Dakota, the eldest of four siblings, including her sisters, Connie and Bobbie, and brother, Dale. She was a graduate of Concordia College, Seward, the town where she met her late husband, Dr. Elmer Smith. Bonnie and Elmer were married in 1968, welcoming son, Kelly William Smith, in 1974 and daughter, Holly Jean Smith in 1975. Bonnie was a teacher for 40 years, industrious and beloved, she was recognized with the Alice Buffet Outstanding Teacher Award in 2006.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer Smith; son, Kelly Smith; brother, Dale Brehe; brother-in-law, Trevor Smith; and parents-in-law, Herbert and Mary Smith.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Holly Senrick and husband, Charles, and their daughter, Charlotte Jane Senrick; her late son Kelly's union with ex-wife, Ragina Smith, and their children, Christian Eli Smith and Aiden Elmer Smith. Warm thoughts towards her faithful companion, Richard Stauffer.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Smith family for future designations. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.zabkafuneralhome.com.
