The Seward County Board of Commissioners honored employees who have worked in the county for five years during its Dec. 22 meeting. Eight total county employees from various departments were given a plaque as recognition for their service, including: Casey Jo Tieman, Maria Hatfield, Steven Leichner, Michelle McMann, Anthony Baldinger and Chris Bigsby.

Also during the meeting, the board:

• heard from Seward County Extension’s Ann Dobesh on applications for two vacant positions in the department. The board approved Jennifer Eickhoff to fill the District One position and Krystal Naber to the District Four position.

• approved a three-year contract with Maximus to form a cost allocation plan regarding child support amounts within the county.

• discussed a fee schedule for items sold in each department that are not set by statute. This came via the state auditor’s office and it was suggested each county office should make their own schedule and present it to county clerk Sherry Schweitzer to have on file.

• held a public hearing to review updated general assistance guidelines, including a change for equity of assets. A resolution with an adjustment, naming $10,000 home equity and a $2,500 equity as qualifying factors, was passed by the board.

• heard from Clark Kolterman of the Seward County Visitors Committee who reviewed the organization’s 2020 happenings and financials.

• opened a single submitted bid for an aerial imagery project by the treasurer’s office. Eagleview Technologies submitted a $172,783.78 bid for the department. Further action will be decided at a future meeting.

The next Seward County Board of Commissioners meeting will be Jan. 5 at 8:30 a.m. on the third floor of the courthouse. The meetings are open to the public.
