Betty Jean Briggs of Seward was born Jan. 15, 1932, in Central City to Owen Elbert and Bessie Marie (Nelson) Bean and passed away peacefully in Seward with family at her side on Feb. 13, 2020, at the age of 88 years and 29 days.

Betty was a 1950 graduate of Seward High School. On July 24, 1950, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Donald Richard “Dick” Briggs, at the Methodist Church in Seward, and their union was blessed with two daughters, Charisse “Chari” and Terry. Betty was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The center of her world was her family, whom she loved, and she was loved dearly by them. Preparing Sunday suppers and holiday meals were her favorites, and these traditions will long be cherished by those who were blessed by her cooking talents and generous hospitality.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Bessie Bean; her husband, Dick Briggs in 1994; her sisters, Mildred Rublee and Dorothy Rohlfs; brothers, Elmer Bean and Art Bean; and her granddaughter, Nicole Petersen.

Betty is survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Chari LeMasters and her husband Dale and Terry Petersen and her husband Greg; six grandchildren and their spouses, Melissa LeMasters Lardi and her husband Bill, Robb LeMasters and his wife Rachael, Alison LeMasters Barad and her husband Jon, Melanie Petersen Forehan-Kelly and her husband Ryan, Megan Petersen Carpenter and her husband Scott and Marissa Petersen Patton and her husband David; 13 great-grandchildren, Connor and Sarah Lardi, Nate and Sloane LeMasters, Max and Spencer Barad, Jalen, Sydney and Jaxen Forehan-Kelly, Keenan and Caverly Carpenter, Marlowe Betty and Dempsey Patton; sister June Plessel; nieces and nephews and extended Briggs family members.
