A fire broke out in a barn at 3354 McKelvie Road around 8 a.m. on April 4. Firefighters from Seward, Tamora, Goehner and Staplehurst responded to the call at Dickinson Seed and Feed along Highway 34. Animals were in the barn, but responders broke through a fence to allow two horses to escape to safety, along with one cow. The barn collapsed in just a few minutes and was a complete loss, though the fire did not spread to the home on the property. The cause of the fire was unknown at press time. Seward Rescue was paged to a rescue call shortly after arriving at the fire, and Garland Rescue was dispatched for mutual aid.
