Arthur H. Fliege, 84, of Lincoln, died Monday, April 25, 2022, in his home with his wife present.

He was born June 22, 1937, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of the late William E. Fliege and Elizabeth C. Fliege. Art, as he was known, was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Music was a large part of his life. He started playing the piano as a child and continued throughout his life, transitioning into organ as well. Music was so important to him that it became his life's vocation. He graduated from Lanphier High School in Springfield. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from River Forest College, Illinois, with his degree in education. He went on to graduate with his Master's in Music Education from the University of Illinois; all of these accomplishments with an emphasis on music. He taught music for many years at Concordia Teachers College in Seward, directing both the concert and marching band and touring with them. He especially enjoyed teaching Music Theory. He also taught music at St. Paul Lutheran school in Concordia, Missouri, in the early 1960s, where he met his future wife, Helen (nee: Lovercamp).

Art and Helen were married June 16, 1962.  From this union, they had three children, Kara Urlis-Comer (Rick Comer), Ronda Kay Clark (Mark), Jonathan Fliege (Jill). He served on the board of The American Guild of Organists' local chapter. He later drove tour buses and sports teams around the United States and enjoyed the interaction with his passengers as well as the travel. He loved fishing, classical music, camping with his children when they were young, Jeopardy and mostly, spending quality time with his family.

Art is survived by his wife of almost 60 years Helen; his children, Kara (Rick), Ronda (Mark) and Jonathan (Jill);  grandchildren, Hannah, Adam (Kelsey), Samantha, Jack, Andrew, Nora, Adeline, Amelia, Allison (Spencer) and Corey (Brittni); great-grandchildren Reagan and Maddox, who call him “Grandpa Art;” siblings, Stuart (Judy), Elizabeth “Betsy,” Freddy (Becky), Linda Wellenreiter (Dan), Tim (Laura).

He is preceded in death by his parents William and Elizabeth Fliege and siblings, William “Billy,” Edwin, Richard, Walther “Herky”.

Art was faithful to his family, friends and above all, his Lord and Savior.

The funeral service was May 4 at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward with committal in the Seward Cemetery.
