Witches and wizards celebrate the stories

The Seward Memorial Library held a Harry Potter Adventure night Feb. 3, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of the book “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”

Kids came dressed as their favorite characters for activities and games.

After a night filled with family fun, kids who completed and turned in their activities were entered into a prize drawing.

Activities included a challenge maze, a word unscramble, a trivia sheet and a scavenger hunt.

Library staff and volunteers dressed up to keep the magic alive. Even “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named” made an appearance.

The library set up a Platform 9 ¾, a curtain made to look like a brick wall. Behind the platform, kids could put on the sorting hat to determine which Hogwarts house they belonged to and take a photo in front of the backdrop.

The library was decked out with Hogwarts emblems and representations from the movie series.

Author J.K. Rowling first published “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” the British equivalent to “The Sorcerer’s Stone,” in 1997.
