Centennial’s boys’ basketball team beat two Mustang teams last week, topping Sutton 48-36 Jan. 5 and Raymond Central 60-47 Jan. 6.

Coach Cam Scholl said Sutton is always a tough place to play, but the Broncos played very good defense and were efficient on offense.

“There were not a lot of possessions where we didn’t get a great shot,” he said. “We worked for good shots and got them and were able to convert.”

Joel Bargen scored a season-high 15 points against Sutton, making five of seven from the floor and 5-6 from the free throw line.

Jackson Hirschfeld added 12 points and four assists, and Cooper Gierhan scored 10.

The next day, the Broncos hosted Raymond Central and led 37-22 at halftime.

Gierhan led the team with 19 points and was 4-8 from three-point range. Hirschfeld added 18 points, and Wyatt Ehlers finished with seven points, seven assists and eight rebounds.

“Overall it was a good week,” Scholl said. “We had four good days of practice, and that translated to two good wins.”

Centennial (9-2) was to host Shelby-Rising City Jan. 9 and Columbus Lakeview Friday, Jan. 12, at 7:30 p.m. before traveling to Central City Saturday, Jan. 13.
