For Which It Stands

A sculpture of two children saluting the flag was installed June 11 at Cattle Bank in downtown Seward. The art is in memory of John Cattle, Sr., and was created by James Haire of Fort Collins, Colorado. Read more about the work in next week's Independent.

Coming up soon:

Susie Piitz, a sophomore at East Butler High, will perform piano music at the Seward Senior Center today at 1 p.m. She will perform classical music following a meal that will celebrate June birthdays and anniversaries. 

Southeast Community College in Milford will hold a commencement today. The ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Milford Campus Welsh Center. Mark, W. Morris, president of Mechanical Sales in Omaha, will be the guest speaker.

Seward Memorial Library is premiering "One Small Step" about Apollo 11 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Families are invited to view the free movie at the Rivoli Theatre tomorrow, beginning at 10 a.m. Contact the library at (402) 643-3318 for more questions. 

A representative for U.S. Senator Ben Sasse will be in Seward on June 13 from 10 a.m. to noon at the library. This will provide a face-to-face opportunity to talk to a member of his staff about federal government-related issues. 

The Kiwanis KiTones will perform in Utica next Wednesday, June 19, at the senior center. Their concert begins at 1 p.m.
