Share opinions with senator’s staff: Sen. Deb Fischer announced office hours in Seward Monday, April 15. Sarah Skinner, her constituent services and outreach representative, will be at the Seward Civic Center Room 3 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Foot care topic of session: “Foot Care” will be the subject of Mondays for You on Monday, April 15, at noon in the Seward Family Medical Center lower level Vahle conference room. The free program will be presented by Specialty Physician Dr. Matthew Hahne. A light lunch will be served.

Deadline set for Arbor Day artwork: The GFWC Seward Woman’s Club’s annual My Favorite Tree art contest invites students to depict their favorite tree in art form. Any medium is welcome. Size is limited 16 inches by 20 inches maximum. The contest is open to students in kindergarten through fourth

grade. The artwork does not have to be mounted but should include the artist’s name, grade, school, teacher, home address and phone number on the reverse side. Cash awards will be presented to the winners. Art work is due Monday, April 15, at 4 p.m. to be judged and displayed at the Seward Civic Center in Seward. Mail or deliver artwork to GFWC Seward Woman’s Club, Jean Kolterman, Project Chairman, 1059 Plainview Avenue, Seward, NE 68434. Skills on display in annual contest: The Seward Optimist Club will host the free annual 2019 Major League Baseball Pitch Hit and Run and MLB Junior Home Run Derby youth competitions for 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14 year olds (age as of July 17, 2019) boys and girls in softball or baseball on Monday, April 15, from 5:30 p.m. until dark at the Plum Creek Sports Complex in Seward.

Youth may bring their own bats and may leave after competing. Those who qualify to advance will be contacted.

What parents need to know about drugs, alcohol: Seward County Sheriff Mike Vance, the Seward County Sheriff ’s Office, Laura Vandenberg, licensed drug and alcohol counselor with Blue Valley Behavioral Health and Sara Bockelman, program specialist with Mothers Against Drunk Driving will be the presenters at a free class Tuesday, April 16, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Seward Civic Center. Parents and other caring adults are essential in providing a meaningful impact on how youth perceive drugs and alcohol and its outcomes. This session will focus on helping parents recognize trends and signs of drug and alcohol use among youth, understand the negative consequences of use on youth, and empower parents to engage with youth regarding positive decision making. Weekend sports

Concordia University's baseball team saw its GPAC winning streak end April 13. Junior Jason Munsch made it his mission to keep some distance between the Concordia University baseball team and Jamestown at the top of the GPAC standings. The league’s first and second place teams battled for 21 innings April 13 with the result being a doubleheader split at Plum Creek Park. The Bulldogs took game one, 3-2, before falling in a 14-inning marathon, 6-5, to cap the day.

Part I of a weekend GPAC road trip was a success for the Concordia University softball team. The Bulldogs blasted four home runs, including two by freshman Camry Moore, in a doubleheader sweep at Briar Cliff April 13. Concordia won by scores of 11-4 and 10-0 (five innings) while pounding Charger pitching to the tune of 22 combined hits.

The Bulldogs waited until the late innings to bust loose offensively as part of a formula that worked well enough for it to grab two conference victories April 14. Slugger Hhana Haro led the way in what amounted to wins by scores of 5-1 (eight innings) and 11-7 over Mount Marty.

In professional golf, Tiger Woods won the Masters, coming from behind in the final round for the win.
