The Cowboy Bar opens in Staplehurst

Lori McGuire has found moving from her home state of Wyoming to Nebraska to open a bar to be a good idea.

McGuire is the manager of the Cowboy Bar and Grill in Staplehurst. She co-owns it with Robert Johnson.

“He’s the one who called me up and said ‘Hey, we’re buying a bar,” McGuire said. “I moved over when this came about.”

A walk for life, a walk for hope

The Chippewa Northwestern Railway Society from Goehner teaches about their 1-inch scale model steam engine trains at the World’s Greatest Hobby on Tour event in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Read more HERE.

Janet Jeffries, a member of the Kramer Sisters, will perform at the Seward Senior Center Wednesday, Feb. 13, after lunch.

The Utica Boy Scouts - Troop 180 - welcome you to their annual Pancake Feed on February 17th, 2019, at the Utica Auditorium. Free will donation to support local scouts. There will be pancakes, famous Butzke sausage, eggs and toppings. If you're lucky, you might even catch a great boy scout skit or two. Serving 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Tuesday scoreboard

Subdistrict B4-girls: Seward 47, Norris 26. Jays move on to a district final on Saturday with a chance to qualify for the state basketball tournament.

Subdistrict C1-2-girls: Milford 50, Lincoln Lutheran 42. Milford will play in the subdistrict final Thursday against Lincoln Christian, which beat Malcolm 42-31.

Subdistrict C2-2-girls: Centennial 53, Shelby-Rising City 9. Broncos head to the subdistrict final on Thursday against Cross County.

Boys' basketball: Seward boys 63, Omaha Concordia 43

Shrine Bowl: Rosters for the 61st annual Shrine Bowl Classic this summer were released Tuesday. Area players selected to the South team are Edwen Baptista of Exeter-Milligan-Friend, Quinn Butzke and Jack Hirschfeld from Centennial and Joseph Krause and PJ Schaben of Seward. SHS Coach Jamie Opfer is also on the South staff. Congratulations to all picked for this all-star game.
