MHS student looks to replace flagpole

Luke Landkamer, a senior at Milford High School and Eagle Scout candidate with Milford Boy Scout Troop 290 is raising money to replace the broken, rusty flag pole at the school’s football field. Read more about his project on our WEBSITE.

ICYMI - Barnes speaks on historic buildings

Jeff Barnes, a member of the Humanities Nebraska Speakers Bureau and author of “150@150: Nebraska’s Landmark Buildings,” speaks at the Seward Memorial Library Sept. 9. Three churches featured in his presentation were the St. John’s German Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lyons (left), The St. Bonaventure Church in Raeville (center) and the The Pilgrim Holiness Church in Arthur. Upcoming events

The Seward Genealogical Society will meet Sept. 20 from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the west room in the lower level of the Seward Civic Center. The SCGS Library is open each Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for those wishing to search the genealogical and family history resources housed in the library.

Seward County Public Transit is planning a trip to the Nebraska City Apple Jack Festival Saturday, Sept. 22, The trip price is $10. Call the office at (402) 643-4067 to reserve a seat.

A Buddy Check for military veterans will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 22 at Valentino’s in Seward, located at 1519 West Highway 34. Buddy Check is an effort by local volunteers to help prevent suicide by giving veterans a chance to talk to other veterans over pizza. Events will be held at the same time and location each month and are open to veterans of all branches, times of service and ages. For more information, contact Seward County Veterans Service Officer Jeff Baker at (402) 643-4105.

The Seward County Commissioners met Sept. 18 and saw Seward County Sheriff Joe Yocum swear in two new deputies - Mitchell Meyer and Jonathan Dickman.

Cross country: The Malcolm boys won their home invitational at Branched Oak, with runners placing second, third, fourth and seventh. The Clipper girls were second in the team standings, with two runners placing in the top 15.

   At the Crete Invite, Tyler Welch and Ethan Ideus of Seward earned fourth and seventh place medals, respectively, helping the boys to a third-place finish. The girls were seventh.
