Store plans magical adventures: Chapters Books and Gifts in Seward will take children on adventures on Magical Mondays, June 3 and 10. Activities for children ages 4 to 10 go from 10 to 11:30 a.m. each day. We’ll travel to magical places with favorite storybook characters, use our imaginations to make clever crafts, and create (and eat!) amazing snacks. Space is limited. Celebrate summer theme at library: On Tuesday, June 4, Seward Memorial Library will host a come-and-go “Star Wars Party” to celebrate the summer reading theme of “A Universe of Stories.” All ages are welcome to participate, but children who have not attended school must be accompanied by an adult. The two-hour event begins at 1:30 p.m. and includes games with prizes, activities, crafts and snacks. Costumes are optional but everyone must pre-register. Kick off the Fourth with evening: The Seward Fourth of July Celebration’s annual kick-off party will be held Wednesday, June 5, at 7 p.m. at the Seward Civic Center. The event previews the annual Fourth of July celebration. The Seward Rotary crowns the celebration royalty, naming Miss Independence and Mr. Firecracker and the runners-up. The Grand Marshal will be introduced and the Seward County Community Service Award winner will be announced.

Run to St. Lo honors 75th anniversary: The fourth annual Run to St. Lo will be Saturday, June 8, starting at 7 a.m. Check-in begins at 6 a.m. The 5K and one-mile runs honor the 52 Nebraska National Guard soldiers killed in the battle. Register online at GetMeRegistered.com. Proceeds from the race help the Seward High track/cross country programs, Kiwanis education scholarships and the Nebraska National Guard Museum exhibits. Soccer camp on schedule: All boys and girls entering grades 3-8 for the 2019-20 school year are invited to this summer’s Seward High School Youth Soccer Camp Monday through Wednesday, June 10 through 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Seward Elementary fields.
