Victor “Vic” “Bruno” Kenneth Pelan, Jr., was born Aug. 28, 1952, in David City to Victor Ernest Pelan, Sr. and Irene Marie (Odvody) Pelan and passed away Sept. 20, 2017, in Lincoln at the age of 65 years and 23 days. He grew up in the Bruno area where he attended grade school at Holy Trinity in Brainard, David City Public High School and East Butler High School. 

Vic worked as a police officer in Cedar Bluffs for a short time, but spent more than 30 years at Excel in Schuyler, retiring in 2013. Most recently he was employed with Pillen Family Farms, Inc., in the Brainard office up until his passing. Vic was married to Carol Roberts, and to this union five children were born. He later was united in marriage to Sharon (Swartz) Kocian on June 19, 2004, in Seward. Together their family included nine children. In his earlier years, Vic loved riding motorcycles with his friends from Bruno. Vic enjoyed gardening, cars, collecting knives, fishing and going to antique stores. Vic’s biggest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Vic was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight. 

Vic was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Richard and Dorothea Swartz; sister, Margaret Valenti; brother, Steve; and two sisters-in-law, Chris Pelan and Lorna Pelan.

Vic is survived by his wife Sharon; children, Eric Pelan of David City, Matt Pelan and wife Mardi of Norfolk, Mark Pelan and wife Alyson and children Britni, Brock and Breeze of Tilden, Scott Pelan of Norfolk, Vicki Barada and husband Tony and children Violet, AJ and Archie of Ceresco, Vickie Prochaska and husband Todd and children Mercedes, Jake and Lexus of Seward, Jeff Kocian and wife Tammy and children Nolan, Tristan and Kameron of Dwight, Doug Kocian and wife Kristy and children Luke and Cole of Lincoln, and Kelli Stara and husband Dean and children Brooklyn, Jaelyn and Jocelyn of David City; eight siblings, Ivan Pelan and wife Karen of Schuyler, Veronica Sherwood and husband Tom of Lincoln, Arnold Pelan and wife Mo of Aurora, Colorado, Loretta Palmer of Lincoln, Norman Pelan of Columbus, Daniel Pelan of Schuyler, Arthur Pelan and wife Jodi of Brainard and Richard Pelan and wife Linda of Columbus; numerous nieces and nephews. 

A rosary service was held Sept. 25, 2017, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial Sept. 26 at Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight, with the Rev. Raymond Jansen as celebrant. A graveside service and interment were in Union Cemetery near Dwight. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pelan family for future designation.
