Shirley J. Rhodes

Shirley Jean Rhodes, age 85, of Gresham died Sunday, May 5, 2019, at Utica. She was born June 28, 1933, in Lushton to Archie and Elsie (Cotner) Lloyd. She married Robert Rhodes in Concordia, Kansas, on Nov. 15, 1952. To this union, three children were born, daughters Donna Bryant and Teresa Rhodes, and son, Dale Rhodes.
Shirley enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles and making quilts for family and friends. She was a beautician, worked in a fabric store, was a seamstress and managed the Gresham Housing Authority for 30 years before retiring.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Bryant and Teresa Rhodes of York, and her son, Dale (Joyce) Rhodes of Gresham. Grandchildren include Kristina Bryant of York, Katrina DeWitt of Aurora, Jeana Tuttle and Robert “Rob” Tuttle of York and Benjamin “Ben” and Dalayni Rhodes of Gresham. Great-grandchildren include Liam DeWitt and Victoria Loth, both of Aurora. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Rex Rhodes of Omaha and Jerry (Judy) Rhodes of Gresham; sisters-in-law, Jane Rhodes of York and Myra Rhodes of California; and special friend, Vicki Carroll, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, parents-in-law, Dale S. and Margaret Rhodes; brother, Rex Lloyd; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and William Troxler; brother-in-law, Max Rhodes; and sister-in-law, Dixie Rhodes.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at the Metz Chapel in York. Interment will follow at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Gresham. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, with her family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Metz Mortuary in York.
