Richard Ray Roth was born April 16, 1938, on a farm in rural Seward County to Jake and Esther Roth, the fifth of six children, and passed away suddenly July 6, 2018, as the result of an auto accident in Seward at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 20 days. As a young boy, Richard attended Glendale Country School near Seward. He later accepted Christ as his personal savior and was baptized at East Fairview Mennonite Church.

On May 16, 1958, he was united in marriage to Eleanor Schweitzer at West Fairview Mennonite Church, and to this union four children were born, Kirby, Kristine, Kyle and Kraig. He was a lifelong member of East Fairview Mennonite Church. Richard’s whole life was in agriculture, especially dairy farming. He loved having all of his sons helping him on the farm, where he was most content.

Richard enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He loved going out to eat with friends and then gathering together to play Rook. He and Eleanor enjoyed bus tours around the United States and many trips to Branson.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Kirby and Karen Roth of Seward, Kristine and Mark Saltzman of Milford, Kyle and Gloria Roth of Seward and Kraig and Pam Roth, also of Seward; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Donna Roth, Aloha and Wayne Roth and Lorene and Earl McCullough, all of Milford; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gerald Schweitzer and Diana Schweitzer, both of Milford; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters and brother-in-law, Fredetta Roth and Arvilla and Wilton Schweitzer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Willis Roth, Harold Roth, Cleo and Arlene Schweitzer, Dean Schweitzer, Delbert and Ardis Boshart and Lois Schweitzer.

A funeral service was held July 9, 2018, at East Fairview Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Brad Roth and the Rev. Bill Saltzman officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons, Kerwin, Tanner, Adam and Berke Roth, Brandon Stutzman, Brandon Policky, Dillon Gingerich, Kyle Essary and Dan Currie. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters, Kiann Stutzman, Katelin Policky, Kelsey and Charli Saltzman, Adrienne Epperson, Bailey Gingerich, Kinzi Currie, Sierra Essary and Angel and Tiff Roth. The Loren Wissmann family accompanied by Michelle Wissmann sang “Oh Victory In Jesus” and “I Want Us to Be Together in Heaven.” The congregational hymn was “When Peace Like a River. “I Know that My Redeemer Liveth” was sung at the graveside.
