Charles J. Malmberg

Nov. 11, 1947 – June 9, 2018

Charles “Charlie” John Malmberg, 70, of Pender passed on to greener pastures on June 9, 2018, at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation Center in Pender. Charlie was born Nov. 11, 1947, in Pender to G. Elmer and Lilly (Bloom) Malmberg. A “south of town kid,” he started helping out on the farm at a young age. He played football and was an active member of FFA while at Pender High School, where he graduated in 1966. He spent his 20s and early 30s working tirelessly on the farm, participating in demo derbies and tractor pulls, playing softball, bowling and having a good ole time with his friends.

Charlie and CoraLynn “Corky” (Fosler) were married on May 27, 1978, in Seward. They celebrated their 40th anniversary a few weeks before Charlie passed. Charlie and Corky have two children, Julie Ann and Samuel James. While a young family, the four spent many hours fishing, playing ball and renovating the farm place they moved to in 1995, which adjoins to the original Malmberg homestead. A respected farmer and brilliant mind, Charlie worked hard and took life seriously yet was quick to utter a humorous quip or sarcastic comment. He was tickled by unexpected rains, a good cut of beef and pretending to out-fish his son. A lifelong farmer and cowman, Charlie took pride in his weed-free fields and happy heifers. Charlie loved his kids, his cattle and Cork.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Corky; daughter, Julie (Andy) Grawe; son, Sammy (Jenn) Malmberg; brother, Elmer Ray (Mary) Malmberg; sister, E. June Larson; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends and dear neighbors.

He is preceeded in death by his parents; brother, Myron “Mack” Malmberg; and sister, Genevieve Malmberg.

A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2018, starting at 4 p.m. at the Pender Community Center in Pender. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pender-Thurston Education and Community Foundation Fund. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.munderlohfuneralhome.com.
