At its July 2 meeting, the Milford City Council heard from the following:

• Rescue Captain Troy Pickerill, who said the rescue department was denied a grant from Firehouse Subs for a new defibrillator, but it can reapply for the next grant cycle at the end of the summer, which it plans to do. The department ordered one defibrillator that was approved by the Community Betterment Committee at the city council’s June meeting.

“Thank you for that,” Pickerill said.

• Council member Scott Bashore, who said the cemetery board wanted to thank the city maintenance crew for keeping the cemetery looking nice. The city will begin adding grass seed to new graves to eliminate bald spots.

Bashore also said the city ran into an issue with painting the water tower. The council previously approved $80,000 to have the tower painted. The paint job would include a logo design based on the city flag. The estimate came in $8,700 higher, because of the detail, colors and the way the design wraps around the tower. The council will consider approving the additional funds at its next meeting.

• Maintenance Superintendent Gary TeSelle, who said he found a place to take the city’s recycling trailer. It will go to First Star Recycling in Lincoln, though it may take a short time to figure out the logistics.

TeSelle also said he is working to address brown water in Milford by adjusting chemical levels.

“The hardness of the water with the new well is causing us some headaches,” he said.

He also said that with the rainy weather this spring, most people are not watering their lawns like they normally do in the summer, so sprinkler systems aren’t running to help flush the brown from the water system.

• Council member Jason Stahl, who said the senior center is testing out “summer hours,” staying open until 5 p.m. through August so the center may be utilized more.

Stahl also said a concrete pad has been poured outside the bath house at the swimming pool in preparation for a pergola that will be installed to give users a shady place to take a break.
