Seward County Quick Hits—Dec. 27

During the Seward County Commissioners’ Dec. 27 meeting, the board:

• approved two conditional use permits, one for an eight-barn livestock feeding operation for chickens on 420th Road, between Raymond and Old Mill roads, and one was for a four-barn chicken operation near 392nd and Adams roads, northeast of Goehner.

• authorized the chairperson to sign a memorandum of understanding, which will allow the county to apply for a Community Development Block Grant through the Nebraska Department of Economic Development. This grant, along with a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation, is meant to go toward paving 448th Road, east of Utica, for the potential development of a Central Valley Ag feed mill.

• accepted the county’s 2017-2018 audit.

• approved December claims by a 3-2 vote, with commissioners Roger Glawatz, Whitney Fleischman and Gene Gausman voting for and commissioners John Culver and Becky Paulsen voting against.

County Treasurer Bob Dahms spoke against the claims because they included additional payments to employees within the county attorney’s office.

• approved right of way requests from John Blomenberg to clean out trees along the county’s right of way on 336th Road between Bluff and Waverly roads; Lone Creek Cattle Company to install a driveway on Holdrege Road between 210th and 224th roads; and from Stephen Donica for a driveway installation on 210th Road between Waverly and Old Mill roads.

Because New Year’s Day is on Tuesday, the commissioners’ next meeting will take place Wednesday, Jan. 2.
